Let me first take a deep exhale. This is our first expense report that we are sharing with the world and it’s a bit uncomfortable. There is something about sharing this that holds us accountable. Do our spending habits match up to our financial goals?

Room for Improvement
Everything under Mortgages and Utilities is a non-negotiable. That is fixed. However, after having to pay for my car insurance this month, I might need to look for another insurance company to see if I can pay under $817.07.
Everything under Groceries/Dining/Misc is really our call. The glaring expense is our food budget. Our budget for groceries is $300/mo and dining out is another $300/mo, so what happened? Well, I have the summers off as a teacher and went a little overboard ($464) in buying groceries to try out new recipes. I just got tired of eating the same thing again and again. Also, I had more energy to try new recipes. Also, it was my mom’s birthday at the end of the month and Father’s Day. We had separate dinners for our dads, so in total, we had 3 fancy meals out on top of our regular meals. Our dining out expense was around $700. (yikes!) In the future, if we know we are treating family/friends out, we will definitely have a few more meals in.
Gifts: We spent $200 as a wedding gift for a college friend.
Pregnancy/Baby: Since I am in my 2nd trimester, I had to go in for a follow up screening that costs us $300 (We have HSA). We had to check that all the organs are fully functioning. Baby was normal and healthy so we feel relieved.
Health & Fitness: Mr. Quest pays $150/mo for CrossFit. We know that is steep compared to other gyms but he loves it. Also, I had to go in for my annual eye exam and get new contacts ($466). However, good news is that Acuvue gives a rebate of $120. I should see that soon in the form of a Visa gift card. Also, I had to get medicine for the baby and saw a chiropractor. The chiropractor was helpful because my back has been killing me but I don’t think it will be regular thing. I think I really need to be aching in unbearable pain to go back.
Shopping: Clothes don’t really fit anymore so I had to buy a few dresses to get me through this pregnancy.
