Room for Improvement
Traffic Ticket (Shopping/Misc): Mr. Quest got a traffic ticket for driving in the HOV lane with 3 passengers marked on his device instead of one. It was a stupid oversight and it costs us over $200 to pay for the ticket! *grumble
Earthquake Insurance (Home Insurance): My parents were appalled that we didn’t buy earthquake insurance sooner. After some nagging from the parents, we decided to go for it. After all, we live in California and the coverage was pretty generous. I don’t want to take a risk with my house.
Car Battery (Gas/Transportation): This was a non-negotiable. Without the battery, my car wouldn’t run. It set us back about $130 but this is L.A. There is no way I can get around without a car.
Electric: We spent about $170 on A/C. It’s kind of crazy but I don’t feel bad about it. Mr. Quest works at home about half the week and I’m home most of the time because I’m on that teacher-preggers-summer life right now. It is what it is. We usually save more on electricity in the fall months. It’ll balance itself out.
Groceries/Restaurants: This month we were way better about keeping our grocery budget. I didn’t go overboard with crazy recipes and we ate all of our produce. I always feel so accomplished when we don’t throw away food.
Compared to last month, we spent about $1200 less. A lot of that had to do with the food aspect. I didn’t go as crazy buying various ingredients for different recipes. I’m happy with our progress. Thanks for following us on our journey so far!
This month is definitely the calm before the storm. Next month, we have so many things happening that there is no way we can save as much as we did this month.
