As a secondary English teacher, I have amassed so many books for various reasons. A main one is for my classroom library, another is because I use to teach those novels. Also, I have multiple copies of the same books. Why? From bouncing around to different schools and grade levels, I’ve just been a hoarder of these classic books because I never knew when I would need it again. I know my fellow teachers understand.
I don’t like that my classroom and our office at home is full of curriculum that I haven’t touched in years. I’ve been in the same grade level now for about 4 years and I don’t see my principal changing my assignment anytime soon. So for this week, I’m donating all the novels I used to teach and I know are not appropriate for my current middle school classroom library.
Lucky for me, I found someone who could use this. Another co-worker of mine does an poem activity that requires old novels for kids to highlight, cut out, and construct their assignment. She’s thrilled to take this giant bag off of my hands because she doesn’t have to go to a used bookstore and buy a bag of old books for $5 this year.
